The Great Experiment: Past Homeschooling & Keeping its Spirit alive π‘π
1 minute read
Bismillah: By mid-2013, our homeschooling journey had all but ended but the spirit in itself had expanded to include all four of our childrenβSyauqi, Nurin, Hilwaa, and little Qoyis. With each child at different stages of learning, this new phase was both exciting and challenging. We embarked on what we called "The Great Experiment," finding new ways to balance education, faith, and family life. π
Why Keep the Homeschooling spirit alive for All Four? π±
- Customized Learning: Each child had unique strengths, interests, and learning styles. Homeschooling allowed us to tailor their education to meet their individual needs, ensuring that they each received the attention and support they needed to thrive. π
- Faith at the Center: We wanted to make sure that Quranic teachings remained the core of their education. By homeschooling, we could integrate faith into every subject, from science to history, making Islamic values a constant in their daily learning.
- Family Bonding: Homeschooling all four children together created a stronger sense of family unity. The older siblings often took on mentoring roles, helping their younger brothers and sisters with lessons, which not only reinforced their own learning but also fostered a spirit of cooperation and love. π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦
One particularly memorable moment was when Syauqi and Nurin teamed up to teach Hilwaa and Qoyis about the story of Prophet Yusuf (AS). They created a puppet show to reenact the story, turning it into an interactive learning experience that all four enjoyed immensely. π
Managing the Chaos with Iqrasaurus π¦
This phase of our journey highlighted the Inspire and Impart pillars. Homeschooling the values in all four children required patience, creativity, and flexibility. We learned to embrace the chaos and see it as an opportunity for growth, both academically and spiritually.
As Allah says in the Quran:
"And those who strive for UsβWe will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good." (Surah Al-Ankabut, 29:69) π
This verse reminded us that our efforts, no matter how challenging, were a form of striving in the way of Allah, and we trusted that He would guide us through.
A Peek Into Our Conversations π¨οΈ
Nurin: "Ummi, can we do the puppet show again for Hilwaa and Qoyis? They loved it!"
Ummi Ziehan: "Of course! Itβs a great way for all of you to learn together and have fun while doing it."
Syauqi: "Iβll help make new puppets! We can tell more stories from the Quran."
Daddy Ikram: *"MashaAllah, Iβm proud of how youβre all working together.
