Homeschool Beginnings: Why We Chose to Teach Quran at Home π‘π
2 minute read
Bismillah: By mid-2010, we were deep into our journey of Quranic education with our three little onesβSyauqi, Nurin, and Hilwaa. As their curiosity and engagement grew, we made a pivotal decision: to homeschool our children and teach the Quran at home. This decision was driven by a desire to create a learning environment where Islamic values and Quranic teachings were at the core of their education. π
Why Homeschooling? π±
- Tailoring Education to Faith: We wanted to ensure that our childrenβs education was deeply rooted in Islamic values. Homeschooling allowed us to integrate Quranic teachings into every aspect of their learning, from academics to life skills. π
- A Flexible Learning Environment: Homeschooling gave us the flexibility to adapt lessons to our childrenβs unique needs and interests. We could spend more time on Quranic stories or Islamic history, making sure these lessons were thoroughly understood and internalized. π°οΈ
- Strengthening Family Bonds: By teaching at home, we were able to spend more time together as a family, strengthening our bonds through shared learning experiences. Every lesson became an opportunity to grow in faith together.
One of the first lessons we designed was centered around the story of Prophet Yusuf (AS). Through role-playing, drawing, and storytelling, we explored themes of patience, trust in Allah, and forgiveness. The flexibility of homeschooling allowed us to delve deeply into these concepts, ensuring that the lessons resonated with each child. π
Building a Faith-Focused Education with Iqrasaurus π¦
This step marked a significant moment in our Iqrasaurus journey, aligning with the Integrate and Inspire pillars. By choosing to homeschool, we committed to creating a curriculum that would seamlessly integrate Quranic teachings with modern education, ensuring our children were well-rounded in both faith and knowledge.
As Allah says in the Quran:
"And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers." (Surah Adh-Dhariyat, 51:55) π
This verse encouraged us to continue providing constant reminders of Allahβs teachings throughout our childrenβs education, reinforcing their understanding and connection to their faith.
A Peek Into Our Conversations π¨οΈ
Syauqi: "Ummi, why do we learn at home and not in school like other kids?"
Ummi Ziehan: "Because at home, we can learn about Allah and the world around us in a way thatβs special to our family."
Nurin: "And we get to learn more stories from the Quran, right?"
Daddy Ikram: "Exactly, and we can explore those stories as much as we want, making sure you understand and love what youβre learning."
Syauqi: "I like learning at home! Itβs fun to learn about Allah every day." π
End Note: Homeschooling allowed us to build a faith-focused education tailored to our familyβs values. In our next post, weβll discuss how we integrated Islamic teachings into our everyday moments, making learning a natural part of life. ππ
